Byron was producing Pinot Noir in Santa Barbara County long before anyone had ever heard of the motion picture Sideways. Known for its pricey Monument and Nielson Vineyard Pinot Noirs (Nielsen was in fact the first commercially planted Pinot Noir vineyard in Santa Barbara), Byron employs the same hand-crafted, small-lot winemaking techniques for this wine as it does for its high-end wines. Winemaker Jonathan Nagy keeps all lots of Pinot Noir separate throughout the winemaking and aging process, resulting in wines with notable purity, clarity and freshness of expression. Although this may be Byron's entry-level Pinot, it nonetheless delivers a full quotient of pure, expressive Pinot Noir fruit in Byron's trademark Santa Barbara style.
